Based on a recipe from Pennsylvania Nutrition Education Network, via USDA MyPlate Kitchen
Steps written by Kubbord
What goes in
- 1apple
- 4.9 mlcinnamon
- 29.6 mlraisins or currants
- ¾ cupold-fashioned rolled oats
- 1½ cupswater
How to cook it
- Peel the apple with a vegetable peeler, remove the core, and chop the flesh into small, bite-sized pieces.
- Pour the water into a small saucepan and bring it to a boil over medium-high heat, about 3 to 4 minutes.
- Stir the old-fashioned rolled oats, raisins, chopped apple, and cinnamon into the boiling water.
- Reduce the heat to low and simmer, stirring frequently, for about 5 minutes until the liquid is mostly absorbed, the oatmeal is thick and creamy, and the apples are tender.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and divide the cooked oatmeal between two bowls to serve.
