Flour Tortillas
Steps written by Kubbord
What goes in
- 2 cupsall-purpose flour
- 4.9 mlbaking powder
- 2½ mlsalt
- 29.6 mlvegetable oil
- ½ cupwarm water
How to cook it
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Stir in the vegetable oil until the mixture is thoroughly incorporated and has a crumbly texture.
- Gradually pour in the warm water, adding an extra splash of tap water if needed, and stir until the dough gathers into a loose ball.
- Turn the dough out onto a clean work surface and knead 6 to 8 times until smooth and pliable, about 1 to 2 minutes.
- Divide the dough evenly into 10 portions, then roll each portion out flat into an 8-inch circle.
- Heat a dry 12-inch skillet over medium-high heat for 2 to 3 minutes until very hot.
- Lay one rolled tortilla flat in the dry skillet and cook for about 1 minute, until bubbles form across the surface and light brown spots appear on the bottom.
- Flip the tortilla and cook the other side for 30 to 45 seconds, until light brown spots appear, then transfer to a plate and repeat with the remaining dough circles.
