How to cook it

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) with a rack positioned in the center.
  2. Core and chop the apples into bite-sized chunks, and roughly chop the pistachios.
  3. Place the apple chunks, raisins, and lemon juice into an 8x8-inch (20x20 cm) baking dish and stir until the fruit is evenly coated.
  4. Melt the margarine or butter in a small saucepan over low heat for 1 to 2 minutes until completely liquefied, then remove from the heat.
  5. In a separate bowl, stir together the old fashion oats, whole wheat flour, cinnamon, brown sugar, and chopped pistachios.
  6. Pour the melted margarine or butter into the oat mixture and stir until evenly moistened and crumbly.
  7. Scatter the oat topping evenly over the fruit in the baking dish.
  8. Bake for 45 to 50 minutes, until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender when pierced with a fork.
