Skillet-Braised Chicken
What goes in
- 1chicken breast, about 1-inch thick
- 14.8 mlvegetable oil
- seasoning, such as salt, pepper, seasoning salt, onion powder or garlic powder (optional)
How to cook it
- Sprinkle your choice of seasonings evenly over both sides of the chicken breast.
- Warm the vegetable oil in a skillet set over medium-high heat, then sear the chicken for one minute per side until lightly browned.
- Cover the pan with a tight lid, turn the heat down to low, and cook for 10 minutes without lifting the cover.
- Take the skillet off the heat and let the chicken sit covered for 10 minutes, keeping the lid in place.
- Insert a digital meat thermometer into the thickest area to confirm the chicken registers at least 165 °F; if it is not ready, cover and cook over low heat for an additional 3 to 5 minutes before checking again.
