What goes in

How to cook it

  1. Combine the oats, water, dried fruit, and chopped nuts in a cooking pot, cover, and place in the refrigerator to soak overnight.
  2. In the morning, place the covered pot on the stove and heat over medium until it begins to simmer.
  3. Reduce the heat to low and cook gently, allowing about 5 minutes for quick-cooking oats or 10 to 15 minutes for rolled or steel-cut varieties.
  4. Serve hot in bowls, optionally accompanied by a splash of milk, a drizzle of maple syrup, or fresh fruit.
