Chapatis Flatbread
Steps written by Kubbord
What goes in
- 2 cupswhole wheat flour
- ⅔ cupwarm water
- 9.9 mlvegetable oil
- salt
How to cook it
- Combine the whole wheat flour, warm water, most of the vegetable oil, and salt in a large bowl, stirring first with a fork and then mixing by hand until a cohesive dough ball forms.
- Knead the dough on a clean work surface for 10 minutes until smooth and pliable, then return it to the bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rest for 30 minutes.
- Shape the rested dough into a 12-inch log, divide it into 6 equal pieces, and roll each piece out into a thin, roughly 7-inch circle.
- Rub the remaining vegetable oil over a cast-iron skillet and heat it over medium-high heat until hot.
- Place one dough circle into the hot skillet and cook for 30 seconds until bubbles begin to puff across the surface.
- Flip the flatbread and cook for another 30 seconds until golden-brown spots form on the underside, then transfer to a cloth napkin to keep warm while cooking the remaining dough circles.
