Basic Steamed Collards
Steps written by Kubbord
What goes in
- 3 cupscollard greens
- salt and pepper (optional)
How to cook it
- Rinse the collard greens thoroughly under cool tap water, then trim off and discard the tough central stems.
- Place the collard leaves in a large pot and pour in approximately 1 inch (2½ cm) of tap water.
- Cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid and place it over high heat until the water comes to a rolling boil, about 3 to 4 minutes.
- Lower the heat to medium-low to maintain a gentle simmer and steam the covered greens for 3 to 5 minutes, until tender and vibrant dark green.
- Carefully remove the lid, drain away any excess water, and toss with salt and pepper to taste before serving.
