Microwave Baked Apple
Based on a recipe from Kids a Cookin’ Kansas Family Nutrition Program, via USDA MyPlate Kitchen
Steps written by Kubbord
What goes in
- 4large baking apples
- ½ cupbrown sugar
- 4.9 mlcinnamon
How to cook it
- Rinse the 4 large baking apples and core each one, leaving the base intact. Slice a very thin piece off the bottom of each apple so they sit flat and level.
- Arrange the apples upright in an 8-inch (20 cm) microwave-safe dish.
- In a small bowl, stir together ½ cup brown sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon until thoroughly blended.
- Spoon the brown sugar mixture evenly into the hollowed center of each apple.
- Cover the dish with wax paper and microwave on high for 6 to 10 minutes, until the apples are tender when pierced with a fork and the sugar is melted and bubbling.
- Carefully remove the wax paper, allowing the steam to escape, and let the apples cool for 2 to 3 minutes before serving.
